Why it matters to support Biodiversity with MEMA Tokens.
Each MEMA Biodiversity Token that you purchase will go towards projects that either protect or support the restoration of biodiversity, or both.
The need is great and the problem is staggering.
For example, did you know (according to reputable sources):
- There has been a 69% decline in wildlife populations from 1970 through 2018. And losses are accelerating.
- Latin America and Caribbean areas have seen the largest decline in wildlife populations, which an average decline of 94% from 1970 - 2018.
- Wildlife populations in Africa plummeted by 66% during the same period, while populations in Asia plummeted by 55%.
- Freshwater populations, which includes reptiles, fish and amphibians, declined over 83%.
- Coral reef are disappearing at an catastrophically alarming rate, and may be non-existent in coastal areas in less than a decade.
Our Philosophy.
Climate change and biodiversity loss disproportionately affects indigenous peoples and people who live in poverty. All around the world.
The projects we support look to support these vulnerable and at-risk peoples and communities. Through innovative projects such as reforestation through assisted national regeneration to projects that support "blue carbon" initiatives such as mangrove forest restoration and salt marsh renovation, we seek to protect biodiversity, provide jobs, help support local businesses, and build economies.
We also focus on female entrepreneurship and empowerment in our projects as research has shown that women anchor communities and families.
Through these very focused and targeted efforts, we not only help to promote biodiversity and mitigate climate change, but also support these vulnerable communities economically and socially.
